ADOPT Pet Shelter says her mailbox was broken into over the weekend and donations to the shelter may have been taken during the incident.
In a facebook Publishthe shelter detailed what happened, saying “although we don’t know exactly what was stolen, they seized numerous envelopes from the mailbox”.
ADOPT suspects that donations to the shelter were included in the mail that was stolen as they recently held fundraising events, in an effort to raise money to renovate the outdoor area of the kennel.
About the renovation project
The existing kennel has not undergone any upgrades since the shelter opened in 2003. The projected renovation cost is approximately $130,000.
ADOPT was aiming for a completion date for the renovation project in the spring of 2022, as they sought to improve their ability to care for dogs housed at the shelter. Typically, they can accommodate around 40 dogs at any one time. The new outdoor space would give them extra space for the dogs to play to reduce animal stress and provide a place to hold dogs that need isolation time.
The shelter advises anyone who has submitted a donation by mail to confirm it was received by calling 630-355-2299 or emailing Chris Stirn at [email protected]
The shelter says it is “taking steps to prevent this problem in the future.”
