Rescues across New Jersey have seen an increase in foster care and pet adoption during the peak pandemic. For Tracy McCauley, adoptions and foster families are still as high as North Star Pet Rescue in Boonton, New Jersey continues to adapt to the effects of COVID-19 on the rescue world.
âI think people are ready to come back,â said McCauley, North Star’s marketing and events coordinator. “We’re going to see how it goes, we’re going to go with the flow.”
As times change, pet rescue is ready to adapt and bring people to the center for adoption events. Four pets were adopted two weeks ago on North Star’s open house. The rescue has already organized three open days, three in a month, sometimes more.
âWe’re not going to come back to this just yet,â McCauley said. The center is still learning to keep pace with reception and adoption rates. McCauley speaks with passion. She hopes every dog ââfinds a home with a loving, healthy family.
North Star was founded in October 2017. Since then, the rescue has achieved the GOLD level of certification from GuideStar (an information service specializing in reporting on US nonprofit companies).
Even with higher adoption rates, the center has two puppies trying to find their North Star home:
Hi my name is Buckshot and I am always looking for a forever home! I am mostly home trained, good with other dogs (big and small) and as you can see⦠I am also super cute! When I arrived from Texas to New Jersey, I had a collapsed windpipe and needed emergency surgery. It was January, and I’m all healed now and ready for my happiness forever⦠with YOU!
I am looking for an adults only house with a well fenced yard as I need some time to trust your hands and quick movements. For this reason, I am not crazy about leash walks. It really doesn’t matter at all though. See I’m just a little guy around 12 pounds and once I get to know you I’m a celeb hug! Sleeping under the covers or being on your knees is my all time favorite! Well, I also really like the snacks too! Mmmm, can we share some snacks ?!
Hi friends, my name is Trinity. I am a magnificent shepherd mix, with the most beautiful unique coat. I am a super nice young man of about a year. I love everyone and am great with other dogs. I landed at a Texas shelter with an injured paw, but luckily NorthStar didn’t care at all. They took me directly to their vet for treatment. I needed a few toes amputated and may need additional treatment in the future, but I am recovering well.
I traveled to New Jersey a few weeks ago and moved straight into my new host family. Now I am ready for a home of my own! CHOOSE TO ADOPT ME, TRINITY! Submit an application so we can set a date, because meeting you would be super awesome!
