AKRON, Ohio – One of A Kind Pet Rescue is hosting a “Clear the Shelters” adoption event from 9 am to 9 pm on Saturday August 15 at 1929 West Market Street, Akron.
The event is part of the national “Clear the Shelters” campaign designed to find permanent homes for as many pets as possible. Since the campaign began in 2015, more than 415,000 pets have been adopted from shelters according to the campaign site.
The adoption fee for the full day event is $ 150 for adult dogs, $ 50 for senior dogs, and $ 20 for adult / senior cats. The reduced adoption fee covers part of the cost of caring for the animal, which includes sterilization, vaccinations, medication and food. Regular adoption fees are $ 150 to $ 200 for dogs and $ 60 to $ 90 for cats.
Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the shelter is asking potential adopters to wear masks, social distancing, check in at the registration table, and wait in their car until the specified time . Only two people are allowed in adoption rooms at a time. Prospective adopters wishing to bring guests under the age of 10 are asked to notify shelter staff upon check-in.
“We have a lot of cats and dogs to take care of, socializing and preparing to find their forever homes,” Director Kamelia Fisher said in a statement. “We hope that Clear the Shelter Day is successful this Saturday so that our wonderful pets will find the loving homes they so deserve.”
