Stolen Puppy Found At Holly Springs NC Pet Rescue Event


A puppy stolen from an animal rescue group fundraising event in Holly Springs last month was found in Johnston County on Wednesday, and two people are charged with the theft, according to the police.

The dog, a mix of gray-and-white-patched pit bulls named Miss Percy, was returned to Pawfect Match Rescue and Rehabilitation, which hosted the event on Dec. 12, the Holly Springs Police Department said in a news release. .

Holly Springs investigators, assisted by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and information provided by the public, were able to recover Miss Percy.

Kennsie Higgins, 20, was arrested and charged with dog theft, according to Holly Springs police spokesman Mark Andrews.

A second suspect, 19-year-old Brandon Almond, turned himself in later Wednesday night and was also charged with dog theft, Andrews said.

On Wednesday afternoon, Miss Percy found Deborah Sandlin, Pawfect Match Board Member, at the Holly Springs Police Law Enforcement Center. Sandlin welcomed Miss Percy.

Picked up on the street

The rescue group was holding a holiday auction at the Niche Wine Bar in Holly Springs on the evening of December 12 when, according to surveillance footage, a woman picked up Miss Percy and got into a car which stopped on the sidewalk and left. , reported The News & Observer.

Sandlin previously told the N&O that a couple took in Miss Percy and asked for volunteers at the auction to adopt her earlier today.

The rescue group told the couple they weren’t doing same-day adoptions and would have to apply, according to Sandlin.

Less than 10 minutes later, according to Sandlin, surveillance footage showed the couple leaving before the woman returned and took the puppy.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” Sandlin said of the pup, which she raised. “I couldn’t believe anyone got away with it.”

Sandlin described Miss Percy, 10 weeks old when she was robbed, as ‘just the sweetest thing’.

“She loves giving kisses and snuggling up to your neck and playing with toys, or playing with her siblings,” she said. “A little more shy than some of her littermates – but oh my, she’s sweet.”

Following Miss Percy’s theft, Pawfect Match Rescue and Rehabilitation offered $1,000 for the puppy’s return.
