Texas Pet Rescue Animal Shelter Partners

Lorri Caffrey, the Verona resident who is the executive director of Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, announced that the shelter is helping rescue more than 350 animals from an overcrowded shelter in El Paso, Texas. The rescue, which will transport the animals to New Jersey, California and Wisconsin, is supported by the Bissell Pet Foundation, Animal Rescue Corps, University of Florida Maddie Shelter Medicine Program, City of El Paso Animal Services and others.

Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter will be looking to place approximately 130 dogs. Jessica Garrison, its manager, is traveling to El Paso to accompany the return flight to Morristown on Friday, July 2. Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter says shelters as far away as Rhode Island join it in receiving dogs.

“We are pleased to be a partner in this life-saving operation,” said Caffrey. “New Jersey is no stranger to pets in need, which is why we seek to welcome animals locally as much as possible. There are times, however, when we receive an SOS from overcrowded shelters across the country and are able to help them. We are grateful to the Bissell Pet Foundation for working to save pets in crisis. When we work together, we can save more lives.
